Silver found what she was looking for and quickly as she felt pain rush through her started eating the willow leaves. She chewed while watching Stormy playfully rear up at Wildfire.

Wildfire half reared then nipped Stormy playfully on the shoulder then he trotted away from Stormy hoping he would chase him.

Silver snorted and finished eating the willow leaves and laid down close to the cove to let it settle in. Stormy picked up a canter after him.

Wildfire started into a slow canter when Stormy came after him. He didn't want to run too fast for him.

Stormy moved into a run now. He was quick for a colt his age. Silver was napping now. She hoped they wouldn't go to far as her ears were listening to them.

Wildfire slowed back to a trot so Stormy could catch up to him easier. Then he made a half circle and the picked up a canter again, he didn't want to go to far away from Silver.

Stormy slid to a slower pace as he caught up and nipped at him. He then quicked back up into a gallop. This colt was having fun. But, Silver had wandered off for a while to explore.

Wildfire tossed his head a little when Stormy nipped at him then he raised his head to see where Silver was. When he didn't see her he got a little nervous but knew she wouldn't go to far. At least he hoped she would get too far.

Stormy halted beside him. "Where did mommy go?" he asked. He looked up at him. Silver was walking down a path she found and suddenly halted seeing a mountain lion looking at her but didn't make any sound. The cat didn't either.

Wildfire was standing still, his ears moving around hoping to hear her somewhere but he didn't hear anything. "I don't know." he said to Stormy without looking down at him. "Come Stormy, we'll find her." he said then started of in the direction he had last seen her.

Stormy followed right behind him wanting to help find his mother. Silver had been pinned to the ground thanks to he stomach. The cat had bitten into her shoulders and back making her bleed a whole lot and was starting to make sounds. Silver squealed in pain.

Wildfire stopped dead in his tracks when he heard something. He knew if he ran full out Stormy would fall behind. But he had to help Silver. "keep up" he called quickly then he lunged forward and raced toward where he had heard the sound.

Stormy picked up the pace quickly and followed him. The cat was still tearing at Silver's coat. Silver was almost ready to give up.

When Silver came into view Wildfire pushed himself faster then he had ever ran before, every musle in his body was working hard. He slid to a stop throwing dirt high into the air. Wildfire, his ears pinned back flat plunged his teeth into the back of the mountain lion's neck and threw off of Silver and into the ground.

Stormy felt angry and suddenly walked up to the cat and turned his rump to it. He bucked hitting the cat in the face. Silver closed her eyes and sleep took over. She shouldn't be sleeping but she was too weak not to sleep. Her life blood was staining the ground around her.
